Leading Through Effective Communication (LEC)

The NASA supervisor is leading at a critical time in the Agency. LEC is a five-day residential course for managers and supervisors and provides everyday tools and real solutions for improving the effectiveness of the leader/employee relationship. This program is designed to enhance the supervisor’s ability to lead by providing the opportunity to assess their current leadership and communication styles; explore best practices and strategies for communicating as a NASA leader; and, apply strategies and ideas to current leadership challenges. The program challenges the supervisor to understand:

• Who they are as a leader
• How they impact and influence others, and
• What actions they will need to take to continue to enhance their communication effectiveness.

LEC examines the key competencies and skills needed to make the successful transition into leadership at NASA. Participants will improve their personal effectiveness by developing self-awareness through assessments, feedback and coaching. It provides a valuable opportunity for participants to develop their ability to lead and manage others by demonstrating the importance of communication for building trust, setting expectations, motivating employees, and managing performance. This program is a companion training to the Practical HR Solutions for Supervisors (PHRSS) course and will count towards the new supervisor training requirements outlined in NPD 3410.2F, Section 1.d..

Who Should Attend

Individuals who are first line supervisors within two years of being appointed to the supervisory position; or, individuals who actively supervise staff looking for refresher training on managing their employees effectively.

5.5 days - Sunday evening through noon Friday.
